Assembling Wireless Home Networks

Do want to have an ethernet network at home?
No wiring or cables?
Do not know anything about how to configure the systems?

We show here some tips and procedures that will help you structure your home network in a few steps.

1. The Connection

1.1 From that you have a computer (desktop or notebook) and wired Internet access (by ADSL or cable), note the following:
the speed of your connection with your ISP. Check the correct bit rate per second that you contracted with the provider company. The connection speed or data rate is reported in bits per second, usually on the scales kbps, Mbps or kb/s or Mb/s. To know the exact speed of your connection, use: http://speedtest.net/

1.2 Make sure that you will maintain the current speed or if you hired will increase the data rate. I note as this will influence the choice of wireless network equipment.

Examples of ADSL and cable connections:

2.1 To assist in understanding, let's imagine a 1.0 Mbps ADSL connection.
It's important to know which manufacturer and model of modem that is installed. There are several types of equipment with multiple functions. Basically you should know if the modem works only as a "bridge" or "bridge- router." Imagine that the modem works only as a "bridge", so there is no routing packets (we'll explain that part later).

2.2 As the modem will only work as a "bridge" we should buy a router with built-in wireless access point. If the modem has routing functions for data packets, an equipment type access point will be enough for our application.

2.3 Then the purchase order may be as follows:

--> Equipment wireless router 54 Mbps, with 2 dBi detachable antenna and with minimum output of 18dB (32mW).

Examples:
As the speed of connection to the ISP is not high (1.0 Mbps), the equipment need not be the fastest on the market. There are devices that have router functions and access point, simply set it up correctly.

3. Wireless Network Operation

Normally wireless networks operating in the 2.4 GHz band, divided between 11 to 14 channels. This frequency is normative force as free, therefore, is a band where you can transmit data and / or voice without the need for registration of links between receiver and transmitter. However, all equipment involved in wireless networks must be approved by the body or regulatory agency in the case of Brazil, the regulatory and supervisory agency is ANATEL. Therefore, it is necessary to note the approval of equipment at the time of acquisition.

An example of a simple wireless network can be seen in the figure below:
